Rob Wilms
Senior Pastor
Rob serves as the Senior Pastor at Avalon, where he leads with a heart for spiritual formation, biblical teaching, and community care. He guides the church’s vision, preaches regularly, and supports both staff and congregants in their walk with Christ.
Rob and his wife Charlotte joined Avalon in the summer of 2014 after completing his Master of Divinity. Their move marked a return to their roots—Rob grew up in Saskatoon and Charlotte in Regina (yes, opposites attract!). Together, they’re raising four wonderful children: Elizabeth, Clara, Nathan, and Evelyn. Their journey back to Saskatchewan felt like a homecoming to the “Promised Land.”
Rob is passionate about participating in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ in people’s lives. He believes ministry is not just about leading others, but also about being continually transformed by Christ himself. His love for great stories—especially those that echo themes of redemption and courage—shapes his preaching and pastoral care.
Rob is a die-hard Riders fan and a loyal Ottawa Senators supporter (yes, he knows that’s a rare combo). He also grew up on Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia, so don’t be surprised if a sermon includes a Gandalf quote or a reference to Aslan. And while he’s not officially a musician, great music still inspires him—just don’t ask him to sing in public!

David Netmaker
Associate Pastor
David serves as Avalon’s Associate Pastor, with a primary focus on youth ministry. He leads programs that help students grow in their faith, build meaningful relationships, and discover their identity in Christ. Whether it’s teaching, mentoring, or organizing events, David is passionate about creating spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and equipped to follow Jesus.
David and his wife Kathryn are proud parents to their son, Arthur. Having previously served as an intern at Avalon, David brings both familiarity and fresh energy to the team. His journey into ministry has been shaped by a deep love for the church and a desire to walk alongside the next generation.
David believes that youth aren’t just the future of the church—they’re a vital part of it right now. His ministry is rooted in authenticity, biblical truth, and relational discipleship. He’s passionate about helping young people encounter Jesus in real and transformative ways, and he’s committed to walking with them through both the highs and the hard questions of life.
David is a board game enthusiast—so if you ever need a game night recommendation (or a competitive opponent), he’s your guy. Just don’t challenge him to a strategy game unless you’re ready to lose with grace!

Lynne MacPherson
Parish Nurse
Lynne serves as Avalon’s Parish Nurse, offering compassionate care and spiritual support to our church family. She provides health consultations, prayer, visitation, referrals, and guidance through life’s more difficult seasons. Whether you need someone to talk to, accompany you to an appointment, or help navigate the healthcare system—Lynne is here to listen, care, and help.
Lynne holds a Nursing degree from the University of Saskatchewan and received her Parish Nurse specialty training in Saskatoon. She is also a licensed worker with The Alliance Canada. Lynne and her husband Blair have been married for over 40 years and have a vibrant, busy family that includes four married children, fourteen grandchildren, an adopted son, and four foster daughters. Her life is full of love, laughter, and a lot of birthday parties!
With a background in long-term and palliative care, Lynne’s ministry is rooted in pointing others to Jesus, our Healer. She believes in holistic care—supporting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being—and sees every interaction as an opportunity to reflect Christ’s love and bring hope and healing.

Laura Funk
Office Administrator
As Avalon’s Office Administrator since 2011, Laura keeps the church organized and running smoothly. She manages communications, scheduling, and supports both staff and volunteers with grace and precision. Her behind-the-scenes work helps create a welcoming and well-functioning environment for everyone who walks through Avalon’s doors.
A lifelong member of Avalon, she first attended with her family at the age of six. She’s married to Kevin and is the proud mom of two daughters and Nana to two grandsons and a new baby to arrive in March. After a 16-year career teaching First Aid and CPR, she transitioned into church administration, bringing her love for people and her gift for organization into a new season of service.
Her heart for ministry is deeply rooted in worship and family. Her greatest passion has always been her family and to live her life fully for the Lord—a calling that continues to shape her life and work.
When Laura is not at Avalon, you might find her scrapbooking, cross-stitching, and quilting—so if you see her surrounded by fabric and thread, she’s probably crafting something beautiful (and maybe teaching someone else how to do it too!).
